Top 5 Formula One Drivers of All Time

By | July 31, 2022
5. Alain Prost
France has produced some of the best drivers in the sport, but none better than Alain Prost. Prost began karting at 14 before climbing up the formulas to make his Formula One debut in 1980. He began his career with McLaren, but much of his success was while he was with Renault. Prost won his first title in 1985 and added three other titles in 1986, 1989, and 1993. His record shows how excellent a driver he was and how close he was to more titles. He finished second in the drivers’ championship four times, including a half-point behind Nikki Lauda in 1984, the closest of all time.
4. Sebastian Vettel
Several drivers were frustrated by Mercedes’ dominance in the hybrid era, but none more than Sebastian Vettel, who will be retiring at the end of the 2022 Formula One season. His incredible time with Red Bull from 2010 to 2013 seems decades ago, but it cannot be forgotten how good Vettel was during that period. Vettel shot to the limelight after a miraculous win against Toro Rosso in Monza in 2008. He won his first title with Red Bull in 2010, dominated in the 2011 season, and mounted a brilliant comeback in 2012 for his third title. After dominating the sport in 2013, Vettel became only the fourth driver to win four titles in a row. While he has not won any title since 2013, few drivers can match that feat.
3. Ayrton Senna
The Brazilian is considered by many the most talented driver of all time, despite not having as many drivers’ championships as others in the top five. He is the perfect example of numbers not telling the whole story. Since his debut in 1984, Senna’s driving skills were constantly on display, with incredible performances throughout his career. He won his titles in 1990 and 1991 and died during the 1994 Imola Grand Prix after his car’s steering column failed. An incredibly sad ending to the career of a legend.
2. Michael Schumacher
Words would fail to describe how good a Formula One driver Schumacher was accurately. When he retired in 2012, he held the record for the most successful driver of all time with unbelievable 91 wins and seven world championships. He won his first title in 1994, and from 2000 to 2004, 2on four titles in five years, a testament to his greatness. His incredible dominance made him a hero to many current Formula One drivers. We hope to see him back in the public light soon.
1. Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton. The Greatest of All Time. There are very few records in Formula One not currently held by Lewis Hamilton. While he missed the title in 2021 that could have seen him clinch a record eighth title, he is undoubtedly the greatest driver to grace the Formula One track. He has dominated the sport with Mercedes for many years and is fondly remembered for coming close to winning the title during his rookie year. After struggles with McLaren, Hamilton switched to Mercedes in 2013, a move that paid off massively. He won back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015 before winning four titles from 2017 to 2020, with very little difficulty. In 2020, Hamilton won 11 of the 15 races that he started, becoming his most dominant season. While he has endured a difficult start to the 2022 season, Hamilton is undoubtedly the best Formula One driver of all time, a truly magnificent.
